Family Resilience Internships


The Family Resilience department at The Family Center offers internships that are designed to provide
both undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to engage in direct client practice by
empowering parents to change family cycles. Each intern will be placed to work in a specific program:
Nurturing Families, Positive Parenting…Plus, or Parenting Seminars. Programming will potentially be
provided in community and jail settings, both remotely and in-person.

General Intern Expectations
  • Assist with client paperwork and session data entry
  • Help with additional program tasks, potentially outside of program assigned
  • Attend agency meetings and events
  • Attend intern group supervision biweekly led by Supervisor
  • Attend individual supervision biweekly led by Task Instructor
Parenting Seminars Intern Expectations
*Parenting Seminars are one time only and will cover a specific topic (Co-Parenting, First 3!, etc.)
  • Attend seminars on a frequent basis as outlined in schedule
  • Facilitate/co-facilitate (if master level) or lead an activity/section (if bachelor level) each session once trained
  • Enter client paperwork and session data for seminars
Positive Parenting…Plus Intern Expectations (Master Level)
*Positive Parenting…Plus includes eight weeks of parenting groups
  • Attend at least two groups weekly
  • Facilitate/co-facilitate at least one group session on a weekly basis once trained
  • Enter client paperwork and session data for at least one session weekly
Positive Parenting…Plus Intern Expectations (Bachelor Level)
*Positive Parenting…Plus includes eight weeks of parenting groups
  • Attend at least one group weekly
  • Lead an activity during at least one group session on a weekly basis once trained
  • Enter client paperwork and session data for at least one session weekly
Nurturing Families Intern Expectations (Master Level)
*Nurturing Families focuses on individual family sessions
  • Facilitate/co-facilitate family sessions on a weekly basis once trained
  • Enter client paperwork and session data for all sessions facilitated/co-facilitated
Nurturing Families Intern Expectations (Bachelor Level)
*Nurturing Families focuses on individual family sessions
  • Attend at least one family session weekly
  • Lead an activity during at least one family session on a weekly basis once train
